The schedule is not the installation.
Chapter 9 is often only one stop. A cooling tower, dryer, sauna heater, fuel cell, or fireplace each pulls other chapters and other disciplines.
- Start at 901.1–901.4: IMC vs fuel-gas code, hazardous location, Group I-2 Condition 2.
- Identify the exact appliance type.
- Confirm the governing code path and listing.
- Occupancy or location restrictions (see also IMC 303).
- Access, support, utilities, clearances, drains, intakes — on the plans, not only in the schedule.
- Fireplace / insert: 902 masonry · 903 factory-built · 904 pellet · 905 stoves · 801.10.
- Barbecue: IMC 906. Incinerator or cremation furnace: IMC 907 (UL 2790 vs UL 791). Wall furnace: IMC 909. Floor furnace: IMC 910.
- Dryer: IMC 504. Kitchen cooking: 507 / 506.
- Cooling tower / evaporative condenser / fluid cooler: structure, plumbing, and intake — Chapter 9 is not mechanical-only. Code path: IMC 908 series recap.
- Hydrogen generating: 304.5. Door swing vs vent terminal: 802.9. Power exhauster: 801.14 inlet side.
