A damper symbol is not a protection strategy.

IMC Chapter 6 is where ceiling space, shafts, and rated assemblies either coordinate or become RFIs. Construction standard, plenum use, insulation, and 607 damper basis have to be on the sheet — not in a spec nobody opens at inspection.

What the drawings should identify

607 as a typical detail copied onto every penetration

Each rated crossing needs assembly type, damper basis, listing, access, and any smoke-control interface. A typical that says “F/S damper where required” is a comment magnet. See IMC 607 Part 1.
