A cooling tower is not a mechanical-only item.
A cooling tower, evaporative condenser, or fluid cooler is not a line on the mechanical schedule. Daily Code Talk’s Chapter 9 kickoff: it can affect structure, plumbing, and intake location. - Identify the exact equipment. A closed-circuit cooler is not an open tower. Listing and manufacturer installation instructions govern over a generic “cooling tower” note.
- Structure owns the basin and the steel. Put operating weight where the structural engineer can see it. We do not invent a clearance number here.
- The drain and blowdown are plumbing. If they have nowhere legal to go, that is not an MEP surprise at inspection. Points of connection stay with the purveyor.
- A legal mechanical tower can still dump into an outdoor-air intake. Overlay the roof with intakes, openings, and the roof edge.
- Chapter 9 is often only one stop. The permit set has to show the full path, not just the section number — and we will not invent that number until the Daily Code Talk exists.

If the tower is already on the roof plan as a tag and nothing else
Send the cut sheet. Masterbuild will say whether mechanical still has no row — not whether structure will accept the basin.
