Temporary is not unpermitted.
IMC 110: temporary does not mean unpermitted. Temp heat, negative air, dehumidification, boilers, and generators get pulled if they are not permitted, vented, and taken down on a real date.
Educational 2024 IMC 110. Confirm adopted edition and the AHJ duration/extension process. This is not a temporary-equipment permit. Model-code text may use 180 days — the jurisdiction can change or replace that number. Do not assume a universal duration. Packet: 110 PDF · ES.
- 110.1: confirm whether the temporary use, equipment, or system requires a permit, and the locally adopted duration and extension process.
- 110.2: installations must meet the IMC to the extent needed for health, safety, and welfare. “Temporary” is not “anything goes.”
- 110.3: the AHJ may authorize temporary service utilities (see Section 109). Coordinate before energizing.
- 110.4: the AHJ can terminate and order discontinuance if the installation is unsafe, noncompliant, or beyond scope/time.
One-page temporary plan before mobilize: purpose and duration; equipment, fuel, listing; venting path, clearances, CO monitors, makeup air; power source and OCPD; supervision/shutdown; decommissioning (removal, firestop restoration, cleaning).
Salamander in the corridor with no CO
Four common failures: no permit because it is “temporary”; duration exceeded without a filed extension; no CO monitoring; venting clearances met on the spec sheet but not at the installed location.

What to send
What the temp equipment is doing, fuel vs electric, intended start/end, and a photo of where it will sit.
If temp heat is already on site
Send the model and the location photo. MasterBuild will say whether 110 even has a permit path — or the CO and venting were never shown.
