Name the assembly. Then pick the damper.
IMC 607: the first question is not “where is the fire damper?” It is “what assembly is being penetrated?” Fire walls, fire barriers, fire partitions, smoke barriers, smoke partitions, shafts, corridors, and rated ceiling membranes do not all take the same device.

- Start from the architectural life-safety / rated-assembly plans. Mark every duct and transfer opening that crosses a rated or smoke-resistive boundary.
- Match damper or protection to the assembly: fire damper, smoke damper, combination fire/smoke, ceiling radiation damper, shaft protection, firestopping, or a documented exception.
- Show access. Schedule type, listing basis, actuation, and access. Ceiling radiation dampers are not a substitute for fire or smoke dampers.
- Fire-alarm, smoke-control, and fan-shutdown sequences have to agree with the selected damper.
- 607.7: flex and air connectors do not cross rated assemblies.
“F/S where required”
A generic symbol hides the wrong device until submittal or inspection. Dryer ducts: no fire damper (see IMC 504).

Life-safety / rated plan, RCP or duct plan, and any existing damper schedule. Photos of ceiling access on a retrofit.
If the typical says “F/S where required”
Send the rated plan and the duct routing. Masterbuild will say whether this is a damper type question or a missing overlay.
