A detector symbol is not a 606.3 installation.
A detector symbol is not enough. IMC 606.3: required smoke detectors are installed per NFPA 72, must monitor the entire airflow the system conveys — including return, exhaust, or relief when those airstreams are part of the system being monitored — and must remain accessible for inspection and maintenance. If return, exhaust, or relief bypasses the detector, the design shows smoke detection and still fails the intent of 606.

- Install per NFPA 72. Coordinate fire-alarm interface and shutdown — do not show a detector with no sequence.
- Monitor the entire airflow conveyed by the system. Trace the actual airflow, not just the duct line.
- Include return air and exhaust or relief air where those airstreams are part of the system being monitored.
- Access for inspection, testing, and maintenance. Do not bury the detector above an inaccessible ceiling or behind equipment.

Or above a hard lid with no access. Or a symbol with no fire-alarm shutdown. Those fail inspection even when 606.2 “where required” was answered correctly.

What to send
The air-handler one-line (return, exhaust, relief), where the duct smoke detector is shown, and whether an access door and fire-alarm shutdown are specified.
If the detector only samples part of the airflow
Send the one-line. Masterbuild will say whether 606.3 still has a partial-sample miss — or 606.3 still has no access path.
