Plastic vent is not plumbing pipe.
Plastic vent is not plumbing pipe. The appliance listing names the pipe, the fittings, and the joint method. Oil-fired appliances also need a device that stops the burner when the vent is blocked — and that reset has to be manual.

- 801.20: plastic pipe and fittings used to vent appliances are installed per the appliance manufacturer’s instructions. Material, primer, cement or gasket, slope, condensate, supports, penetrations, and termination all come from that listing — not from a drainage-piping standard.
- 801.21: oil-fired appliances need a device that stops burner operation when the venting system is obstructed. The device must stop the burner, have a manual reset, and be installed per the manufacturer. Automatic restart after a blocked-vent trip is the miss.
On the set: name the approved plastic vent system (material + joint method + manufacturer). For every oil-fired appliance, show the blocked-vent switch on the mechanical schedule and on the electrical control sequence, including manual reset.
Schedule says “blocked-vent switch.” The wiring does not.
A generic note to “provide safety controls” does not answer: what device stops the burner, where is it in the sequence, and does restart require a person at the appliance?

What to send
Appliance cut sheet (approved vent system), the joint method assumed, and — for oil — the control sequence or a note that none exists yet.
If the vent is plastic, or the appliance is oil-fired
Send the cut sheet. Masterbuild will say whether 801.20 is a listing problem, or 801.21 is a controls problem — before PVC from the plumbing aisle is drawn as the vent.
