912.1 Equipment scope
The 2024 IMC section is headed “Infrared Radiant Heaters.” Its §912.1 language addresses permanently installed electric space heaters: verify listing and labeling to UL 2021 and install the selected heater according to its manufacturer's instructions. Do not extend that electric-equipment statement to every gas-fired or portable heater.
912.2 Independent support
Fix the electric heater in position independently of its electrical supply lines. Hangers and brackets are noncombustible. Show the actual supporting structure and mounting hardware, especially for overhead units.
912.3 Combustible clearances
Use the selected manufacturer's installation instructions for separation from combustible materials. Section 912 does not supply one universal clearance dimension that works for every model.

Review the unit in section with its supports, roof or ceiling structure, finishes and any nearby storage. A correct electrical connection does not prove adequate support or separation.
