901.1 Scope
Chapter 9 governs the approval, design, installation, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of the appliances and equipment specifically identified in the chapter, including factory-built fireplaces. Gas-fired appliances are regulated by the International Fuel Gas Code. An appliance appearing in Chapter 9 does not automatically make the IMC the complete design path.
901.2 General
Chapter 9 requirements apply in addition to the other applicable IMC requirements. A Chapter 9 section can therefore be only one layer of the mechanical review.
901.3 Hazardous locations
Fireplaces and solid fuel-burning appliances are prohibited in hazardous locations.
901.4 Group I-2, Condition 2
Solid fuel-burning fireplaces and appliances are prohibited in Group I-2, Condition 2 occupancies.
