IMC 510 is where dust collection, stock conveying, and refuse handling cross into fire code and life safety territory. If your project moves combustible dust or refuse mechanically, the plan set needs more than a fan schedule and a duct arrow.
IMC 510 is a narrow section - but what it points to is large. Every 510 system must comply with IMC 509 (hazardous exhaust), IMC 510.1.1-510.2, and the International Fire Code. The IFC brings Dust Hazard Analysis requirements, explosion control, and fire detection/suppression coordination into the mechanical permit.

Why this matters more than most exhaust chapters: combustible dust is an explosion hazard, not just an air quality issue. A collector that fails or a discharge path that re-introduces dust into the building is a life-safety failure. The code path runs from the IMC into the IFC and back - missing that coordination is how projects get stopped at inspection or, worse, after occupancy.

Confirm explosion control strategy (deflagration vents, suppression, or isolation) is addressed when DHA indicates risk.
