IMC 310 is only one section, but it is high-risk because it points the mechanical design team to the fire-code explosion-control path. If the use involves explosion hazards, this is not a standard HVAC note.

Structures used for purposes involving explosion hazards must have explosion control where required by the International Fire Code. Those systems are designed and installed under IFC Section 911.

Mechanical Coordination Point

Mechanical drawings may show ventilation, exhaust, equipment locations, controls, or hazardous-area boundaries tied to the explosion-control strategy. That coordination needs to align with the fire-code report and architectural/life-safety drawings.

Use/process/material -> hazard classification -> IFC trigger -> explosion-control design basis -> mechanical ventilation/exhaust role -> electrical classification coordination -> controls/alarm interface -> fire-code submittal reference.

Drawing / Submittal Check

Show hazardous rooms and boundaries, exhaust or ventilation basis, fan/equipment classification where applicable, control sequence, and the IFC/explosion-control document reference. Coordinate with fire protection and electrical before permit.

When To Escalate

Escalate any space involving combustible dust, hydrogen, fuel dispensing, flammable liquids, industrial process exhaust, or energy-storage hazards. This is a life-safety/fire-code coordination item, not a solo mechanical decision.
