Wind/Flood/Seismic (301.15-.18): Anchor and locate per IBC; respect flood elevations/coastal breakaway walls; brace for seismic.
On Plans: Why It Matters
Reviewers move fast when your set shows the proof chain up front:
Standard + edition -> Cert/Evaluation ID -> Exact model/series -> MI page(s).
If any link is missing, expect redlines (wrong vent system, no altitude info, "springs without restraint," ambiguous clearances).

Code Path: IMC Section 301 (General Regulations) -> Section 301.7 (Listed/Labeled) -> Manufacturer Instructions (MI) -> IFGC for gas, NFPA 70 for electrical, IBC for structural (301.15-301.18). The compliance chain: code section -> listing standard -> MI -> installed detail.
Section 301.7: Equipment must be listed and labeled for the specific application - not just listed in general.
Section 301.9: The nameplate must show manufacturer, model/serial, rating, and applicable standards.

Review Risk:
Missing the listing-to-installation link: the product is listed, but the plan does not show it installed per manufacturer instructions.

Field Tip:
Before you file, do a 60-second sweep on every scheduled item: standard+edition, cert ID, exact model, vent per MI, fuel/altitude, restraint-all present and consistent.

Drawing / Submittal Check
For the 301 compliance set: confirm M-001 cites the referenced standard edition for each installation type (NFPA 70 for electrical, IPC for plumbing, IFGC for gas, ASHRAE 90.1 for energy). The equipment schedule must show listing mark, fuel type, and ratings. Plastic piping must cite the NSF/ANSI 14 listing.
Common Review Risk
Review listed-product conditions, required plastic-component certification, and energy features that appear in schedules but not in controls sequences. Each item needs an exact product and implementation proof path.
When To Escalate
Escalate when the plan review has generated comments that reference multiple sections of IMC Ch1 and Ch3 simultaneously - scope, applicability, alternative means, and code edition conflicts in the same review. Comments that span multiple code chapters require a coordinated response that the design team and the AHJ must discuss before the response is submitted.
Ventilation Coordination
For IMC 301 recap projects: the ventilation coordination checkpoint is confirming that every occupied space has a ventilation path - supply, exhaust, or transfer - that was reviewed and approved in the current permit. Alterations that add new rooms or subdivide existing rooms frequently leave ventilation gaps that are discovered at inspection.
