Article 110 is one of the most practical articles in the NEC because its requirements show up across almost every project. We are not going line by line. We will focus on the requirements that most often affect one-line diagrams, electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, rooftop equipment, renovations, submittals, plan review, and field installation.
What we will cover
Equipment approval and listing. Voltage, conductors, and wiring methods. Interrupting ratings and available fault current. Environment, workmanship, mounting, and cooling. Connections, temperature limitations, and torque. Markings, disconnects, working space, access, guarding, and enclosures. Working-space dimensions from 110.26 are not published in this series yet — this site does not invent them.
Why it matters
A panel can be electrically sized correctly and still create a problem if working clearance is blocked, a door cannot fully open, piping is routed through dedicated electrical space, the enclosure is wrong for the environment, available fault current exceeds equipment capability, required markings are missing, or equipment is installed differently from its listing.
